Girl Scout Margaret Sheriff Sailing Center
The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council offer a well-known sailing program for girls at Camp Casa Mare in Seabrook, Texas. The 3500 sf Margaret Sheriff Sailing Center is the central facility for the young sailors. There are two main spaces: an open-air maintenance/ instruction work bay and an air-conditioned classroom. The two-story work bay accommodates two fully rigged sailboats plus sailing equipment workbenches and storage, allowing boat maintenance and sailing instruction to continue during inclement weather. The building, designed to withstand severe coastal windloads, is a pre-engineered steel frame. CMU and natural wood siding were selected for exterior and interior walls to provide a durable, low maintenance facility. Kerry Goelzer was the project architect while at Ray+Hollington Architects.
